Guest Chef Night fund raiser - Murphy, NC 28906 - January 31, 2008

Amber Ledford will be the guest chef at the Longhouse Restaurant’s Guest Chef Night fundraiser on Thursday, January 31, 2008.

The money raised will benefit the Murphy Middle School Beta Club with $2 per plate going to the club.

There also will be a silent auction table.

Liz Melendez, an independent recording and performing artist, will appear at 7:00 pm Saturday, June 30, 2007, as part of the Live Blues On the Greens series at The Longhouse Restaurant at Cherokee Hills Golf Club.

She will perform two one-hour sets and one 30-minute set during the evening.

Zoe and Bruce King inducted into Comfort Keepers President’s Club - Western North Carolina

Zoe and Bruce King not only provide non-medical, in-home services to area families, but they were also honored by CK Franchising Inc. for their performance as Comfort Keepers franchise owners.

The Kings were recognized at the celebration dinner and awards ceremony during the Comfort Keepers Annual Conference held in Charlotte, NC, from May 31 through June 2, 2007.

The Kings received one of the top honors of the evening when they were inducted into the President’s Club. Owners are selected for this honor based on several criteria, including hours of service, revenues, and the adherence to the ideals and standards of the Comfort Keepers system.

At the ceremony, the Kings were presented with a crystal award to commemorate their achievement.

“Being recognized as one of the top performers in the Comfort Keepers system was a great honor,” Zoe King said.

In addition to the President’s Club award, the Kings were recognized for hitting weekly operational milestones for hours of service provided to clients.

“Ask any senior and they will tell you that they prefer to stay in their own home as long as possible,” she said. “I am thrilled to own a business that can make their wishes a reality.”

Comfort Keepers provides in-home services on an hourly, daily, or weekly basis with tailored packages customized to an individual’s needs. Packages include companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, grocery shopping, incidental transportation, laundry, recreational activities, and more. Mountain Country Rod and Gun Club Monthly Meeting - Murphy, NC 28906 - June 19, 2007

Mountain Country Rod and Gun Club will hold its regular monthly business meeting at 7:00 pm Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at the Penland Senior Center located at 69 Alpine Street, Murphy, NC 28906, across from the Murphy Public Library.

Club President Jeff Gustason will conduct a video presentation of the club’s participation in the U. S. Forest Service Fishing Derby and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Youth Fishing Rodeo.

The meeting is open to the general public. Everyone interested in youth activities is urged to attend.

Modern Woodmen of America Youth Service Club Is Starting - Marble, NC 28905

A new Modern Woodmen of America Youth Service Club is starting in Marble, North Carolina.

The club will have its first activity at 6:00 pm on Monday, June 18, 2007, at the Marble Community Center.

Children through age 16 are invited to the activity to learn about the benefits of membership.

Anita Chastain of Marble, North Carolina, will head the club, and Steven W. Brown of Knoxville, Tennessee, a local Modern Woodmen representative, will sponsor the club’s monthly activities.

“Since 1942, Modern Woodmen Youth Service Clubs have focused on volunteering, patriotism, education, and fun. Currently 750 clubs across the country serve thousands of children,” Brown said. “As a fraternal life insurer, our core values tie to helping children, their families, and their communities. And that’s why we’re proud to sponsor positive activities for our members.”

Sail away with the Murphy/Tri-County Women’s Club from noon until 1:45 pm on Thursday, June 7, 2007, in the fellowship hall of Murphy First Baptist Church.

Phylis Blackmon, owner of Crown Travel and Tours Inc., in Murphy NC, will tell about some of the exotic places to travel, how to get there, and what to do once arriving at your destination.

Back by popular demand will be special music by Jeff Owens of Murphy.

Special speaker Linda Farrell of Kathleen, Georgia, will tell about “How a U-turn in Georgia Saved Her Life.”

Reservations and cancellations for the luncheon and child care must be made by noon on Monday, June 4, 2007. Reservations not canceled by Monday will require payment.
