North Carolina Symphony Concert - Murphy, NC 28906 - May 24, 2007

Musicians from across the state will again share the stage with the North Carolina Symphony in Capital Bank Blue Skies and Red Earth, a celebration that showcases the richness of traditional music of North Carolina, in performances in Asheville, Cullowhee, Hickory, Murphy, and Rutherfordton.
The local concert will start at 7:30 pm on Thursday, May 24, 2007, in Enloe Hall at Tri-County Community College on US 64 East.
Blue Skies and Red Earth was conceived, in part, to celebrate the orchestra's 75th anniversary.

In recognition of outstanding sales achievement in 2006, United Country - Murphy Mountain Realty has been presented with the company's President's Honor Group award.
United Country also honored two Murphy Mountain Realty sales associates for their individual sales accomplishments in 2006. Michael Beeri and Brenda Crisp both earned the Pinnacle Club award.

Bear Ridge Mall Grand Opening - Andrews, NC 28901 - June 16, 2007

Bear Ridge Mall will celebrate its Grand Opening on Saturday, June 16, 2007.
Bear Ridge Mall is located in Andrews, NC, just off US 19/174 at the site of the former Hillbilly Mall.
John Hensley, of Goldhorse Entertainment, which is in charge of activities at the mall, is planning a Battle of the Bluegrass Bands for the grand opening.
Admission is free and there is no entry fee.
Hensley is booking bands, and prizes will be awarded. First place is $1,000, second place is $500, and third place is $250. The winner also will have the opportunity to open for a major act later this year or next year.
"Slots are filling up fast, so sign up your band now," said Hensley.
There will be 20 acts competing and each one will play two songs in the competition.

Fame Conley named 2006 advertising All-Star - Murphy, NC 28906

Fame Conley, a sales associate at the Cherokee Scout for over two years, was named an advertising All-Star during Community Newspaper Inc.'s annual advertising meeting on March 9, 2007.
She also helped the Cherokee Scout earn first place for Increase in Display Ads.
Of the 30 newspapers in CNI, only eight sales associates received All-Star recognition for 2006, and two of them were from the Murphy Region.
Thomas Roskelly joins Cherokee Scout - Murphy, NC 28906

On May 1, 2007, Thomas Roskelly joined the Cherokee Scout as a sales associate.
He has an extensive background in newspaper advertising. Roskelly was the classified advertising manager of the St. Petersburg (Florida) Times and Evening Independent, retail advertising manager of the Lakeland (Florida) Ledger, and corporate advertising director for the new York Times Affiliated Group in Florida.
He also served as advertising and marketing director for several businesses.
Roskelly will work with Sales Manager Donna Cook and Sales Associate Fame Conley on the Cherokee Scout's sales team.

Bluegrass to Blues Festival - Andrews, NC 28901 - June 2, 2007

The second annual Bluegrass to Blues Festival will be held on June 2, 2007 in scenic Andrews, North Carolina.
The festival starts at 10:00 am and will showcase more than twenty bands performing on five stages throughout town. Groups will come from all over the Southeast and the Bluegrass to Blues Festival is gaining the reputation of showcasing a variety of excellent new musicians from all genres including blues, country, pop, rock, bluegrass, and gospel.
In addition to the music, visitors to the festival can look forward to a variety of food and local mountain craft vendors.
The festival will appeal to visitors of all ages.
The event is sponsored by local businesses and the town government and is organized by John Hensley of the Andrews Merchants and Business Association.
Celebrating Smoky Mountain Culture for a century, the Andrews Valley will be the place to be on June 2nd 2007. So get out of the city for the weekend, bring the kids and spend a magical day in the mountains you won't forget.
