(Context Tag: Murphy NC) Greg Nazerian, plant manager at Western Forge, a division of Emerson Professional Tools, and Randy Wiggins, the plant's Human Resource Officer, announce that Western Forge has donated $1,000 to the Cherokee County Youth Endowment.

According to Debra Pollard, chairperson of the Cherokee County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, this contribution represents the largest single donation to date for the youth endowment and pushes the total in the endowment to more than $10,000.

"This is a tremendous boost to our youth endowment," Pollard said. "I hope others in our community get behind the youth endowment and help build this endowment. We can help our children and students develop and make the right choices in life instead of waiting until they get into trouble to pay attention to them. I see the endowment helping Cherokee County youth for many, many years."

Earlier this year, the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council awarded $400 to Power Partners, a program that serves youth throughout Cherokee County. The entire $400 came from the Cherokee County Youth Endowment.

The Cherokee County Youth Endowment was started by the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council in 2002 with the expressed purpose of providing funds for programs geared toward preventing our youth from becoming court involved.

Funds for the endowment cannot be used for salaries or capital improvement. The funds must be spent for direct services to youth.

The youth endowment is under the administration of the North Carolina Community Foundation which distributes 5 percent of the fund balance to the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council to fund programs. As the endowment grows, more youth in Cherokee County will benefit.

To make a contribution to the Cherokee County Youth Endowment, call Gil Hargett, Juvenile Crime Prevention Council assistant at 828-389-0747 or call the North Carolina Community Foundation at 800-201-9532.
