Christian rock band Petra retires in December -- Murphy, NC 28906 -- December 31, 2005

In an article written by Linda Miller and published in the November 16, 2005, edition of the Cherokee Scout, we learn that the Christian rock Band Petra will be retiring at the end of the year, with their last show on Saturday, December 31, 2005, at the On Fire Family Church in the Peachtree community of Cherokee County, NC.
Pastor Tommy Fields and his wife Jacquita arranged for the band to appear and tickets are now on sale at the church and online.
There will be limited seating for 500 people. Tickets are $20 purchased in advance and $25 at the door.
"After 33 years of music ministry, including 20 albums and 1,800 concerts, Petra has sold 7 million records and received many awards," wrote Miller.

On Fire Family Church is pleased to announce the grand opening of their Youth and Children's facilities.
Join them as Sparky, the Firehouse Chief Dalmation, comes in on Peachtree Fire Department's fire truck!
H.O.T. (Holiness on Teens) will be serving coffee in their new espresso bar in the "Combustion Chamber" Youth room after services.
Sunday Morning Service at 10:00 am. Sparky arrives at 12:00 noon.

(Context Tag: Murphy NC) Penny Imeson of Moose Hollow Trading Co. will present the special feature at the upcoming "A Day in Moose Hollow" luncheon, sponsored by the Tri-County Christian Women's Club, from 12:00 noon - 1:45 pm on Thursday, April 7, 2005, in the fellowship hall of Murphy First Baptist Church in Murphy, NC.
Imeson and husband Dave said they fell in love with Murphy during frequent trips to the mountains. They bought the old Ford dealership building on Tennessee Street and decided to fill the need for unique furniture and accessories. Imeson will tell luncheon attendees about the full-size log cabin built inside the store. She will show some of the items from the store, including lifetime oil candles, dishes, seasonal spring items, and "Bearfoots" Collectibles from Big Sky Carvers. She will also explain how to set up a wedding registry for the bride-to-be, which is a new service offered at Moose Hollow.
Steve and Blanche Coleman will present special music. The special speaker will be Peggy McClure, Stonecraft regional administrator from Canton, NC.
Reservations and cancellations for the luncheon and child care must have been made by noon on Monday, April 4, 2005. Call Martha at 828-837-2694 or email fepalmer@dnet.net.

Admission is $8.50 inclusive and child care is free.

Moore House Ministry feeds 100 to 150 families every other Tuesday. The next food giveaway will be on November 9, 2004. The food giveaway is from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Joy and Dick Lynn run the ministry from their home in Murphy, NC 28906. They also have clothes for those who need them.
All food is donated from churches as is the gas money for picking up the donated food. The food is given to whomever needs it. A small donation, of a dollar or so, is requested.
Extra food is taken to the jail, senior centers, Christian Love Ministries, REACH, and others.
The ministry is staffed by all volunteers.

The Mount Zion Baptist Church youth group will be having a Fall Festival on Friday, October 29, 2004, at the Peachtree Community Center. The Festival will start at 6:00 pm and end around 9 pm. The funds will be used for the church's youth activities.
There will be a haunted house, bingo, concession stand, cake walk, hayride, and games for all ages.
