Appalachian Heritage Crafters - Appalachian Heritage Crafters, founded by craftspeople in and around Cherokee County, North Carolina, is a grassroots organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Appalachian crafts and heritage.

John C. Campbell Folk School - In 1925, the Folk School began its work with its founders hopeful that the quality of life could be improved by education, and in turn wanted to preserve and share with the rest of the world the wonderful crafts, techniques and tools that the mountain people used in every day life. Today, The John C. Campbell Folk School offers a unique combination of arts and crafts classes & instruction, rich history, beautiful mountain surroundings, and an atmosphere of living and learning together.

Penland School of Crafts - a national center for craft education located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Penland offers one-, two-, and eight-week workshops in books & paper, clay, drawing, glass, iron, metals, photography, printmaking, textiles, and wood. The school also sponsors artists' residencies, educational outreach programs, and a craft gallery open to the public.

Cherokee Indians, Eastern Band of - The Cherokee Indian Reservation is located in western North Carolina and is home to 12,500 enrolled members. They are adjacent to both the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Cherokee Reservation Genealogy - In 1838, the Federal Government forced most Cherokees west into what is now Oklahoma. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians trace their descendancy from about 1,000 Cherokees who managed to elude this forced removal. About 300 of these claimed US citizenship; the rest were living in Tennessee and North Carolina towns or hiding in the mountains.

Some enormous yellow-poplars are over 20 feet in circumference and stand 100 feet tall. The floor is carpeted with a garden of wildflowers, ferns, and moss-covered logs from fallen giants.
