Nantahala Regional Library

The Murphy Public Library is a part of the Nantahala Regional Library.

The Murphy Carnegie Public Library opened in April, 1922. Andrew Carnegie donated $7,500 towards the $9,500 needed for the building and the Town of Murphy donated the other $2,000.

It was originally located in a brick building next to the Courthouse. In 1976, the new library on Blumenthal Streed opened. It cost $460,000 to build and originally housed about 30,000 books.

The old library building is currently the home of the Cherokee County Historical Museum.

The Murphy Library is a part of the Nantahala Regional Library and is located at 9 Blumenthal Street, Murphy, NC 28906. The library is open on weekdays from 9:00am until 6:00pm, and on Thursdays it is open later until 9:00pm. The hours for Saturday are 9:00am until 2:00pm. For more information, you can call the library at 828-837-2417, or see their website, below.
